Overview:

The Diploma program in Bharatanatyam will focus on both the practical and the theoretical aspects of the dance form. The students will have a deep understanding of origin, history and the modern-day practice of this Classical Dance form

Duration: One year (spread over 2 semesters)
Required Units: 15 credit units
Required Courses: Total of 5 courses (4 core mandatory and 1 elective)

Admission Prerequisites:

A high school diploma or GED is required
Practical dance training of at least 2 years

Core Courses for Diploma program:

DBN 301: History, Origin and development of Sadir to Bharatanatyam – 3 credit units.
DBN 302: Nayaka and Nayika – A detailed study- 3 credit units
DBN 303: Practicals- Few items of the margam- 4 credit units
DBN 304: Bhakthi movement and it’s influence on Bharatanatyam -3 credit units

Electives:

DBN 401: – Folk dance forms of Tamilnadu – 2 credit units
DBN 402: – An Overview of the Dasarupakas, Nirupanas and Bhagavatamelas 3 credit units

Evaluation:

A student enrolled in the Diploma program is evaluated using the following methods/metrics:

Written Exam at the end of each course
Program Final Exam at the completion of all courses together:
The final exam will be a combination of a written exam and a practical demonstration exam.

Assignments:Students have to complete assignments in each course before taking the course exam

Quizzes:Students have to complete quizzes in each course before taking the course exam

Students will be awarded a Diploma in Bharatanatyam on the successful completion of all the required courses, with an overall combined GPA of 3.0, based on the evaluation weightages across the various methods/metrics.

Tuition Fees:

$5,400 to complete all the 15 credit units in the Diploma program.

Overview:

The objective of this program would be to give the students a glimpse into the famous Indian Classical Dance form – Bharatanatyam. This certificate course is designed to give an insight into the theoretical and the practical aspect of the dance form. The course is designed in such a way that it would not only help one understand and appreciate this art form but also serve as a stepping stone to unravel the nuances of this Indian Classical dance form.

Duration: 2 semesters
Required Units: 9 credit units
Required Courses: Total of 3 courses (2 core mandatory and 1 elective).

CBN 101 : Introduction to Indian dance treatises in the context of Bharatanatyam (Unit Value-3 credit units)
CBN 102 Practical Dance: This would consist of learning combination Adavus, Kauthuvam and Alarippu (Unit Value – 3 credit units)

Elective courses:

CBN 201: The evolution of various forms of Indian Classical Dance forms (Unit Value – 3 credit units)
CBN 202: Divinity in Dance (Unit Value – 3 credit units)
CBN 203: Fundamentals of Carnatic music and its importance in Bharatanatyam (Unit Value – 3 credit unit)

EVALUATION:

A student enrolled in the certificate program is evaluated using the following methods/metrics:

Course Exam:Some courses will have a written exam and a practical performance demonstration at the end of each course.

Assignments:Students have to complete assignments in each course before taking the course exam

Quizzes:Students have to complete quizzes in each course before taking the course exam

Students will be awarded a Certificate in Bharatanatyam on their successful completion of all the required courses, with an overall combined GPA of 3.0, based on the evaluation weightages across the various methods/metrics.

TUITION FEES:

$2,700 to complete all the 9 credit units in the Certificate program.
